1. How are the class prices structured?
Classes can be paid monthly, quarterly or annually in advance. Students can choose a single class enrollment which is one class per week or an open registration which means they can attend as many classes a week as they like. For more information on pricing click here.
2. Where are uniforms available from?
Uniforms are available through the school or from some sports shops. Though you don’t have to buy one straight away, it is recommended that you purchase a uniform once you decide to enroll, as it really helps to make you feel part of the school community.
3. How much do the uniforms cost?
Depending on your choice of brand, the cost is approx $60 for a child including a belt and around $80 for adults.
4. What should new students wear on their first day?
We recommend you wear anything comfortable that allows you to move freely (no jeans). You don’t need to worry about footwear as the school has a specially padded shock-absorbing floor. Taekwondo is a bare foot practice.
5. What should I expect on my first day?
New students join a class for their age group and try the whole class with other people. You will be taken aside to learn some basics such as how to punch and kick properly. This helps our beginners to accelerate their learning right from the start. From the first day you will be learning basic self-defense techniques including how to block. Initially teaching is focused on how to get out of trouble.
6. Do students attend competitions?
This is up to you! From time to time we hold competitions within the school and between a few affiliated clubs. If students wish to enter state championships they have the chance to do that through our club, as it is a member of the national body (the national body has the right to select national representatives). Grand Master Oh holds special training classes in the lead up to selection for people who want more competition training.
7. Do all students have to do gradings (exams)?
All students have to do gradings in order to progress through the belts. It’s good to aim for something, and the grading process gives further purpose to your practice. You can progress as fast or slow as you want, there is no pressure to complete gradings within fixed time frames.
8. Where are grading sessions held?
Grading sessions are held at the school, conducted by Grand Master Oh.
9. How long does each belt take to achieve?
We encourage our students to work at their own pace; progress must be based on your own goals. We dedicate some class time to practicing the various patterns required for grading but there is no set or standard time for each belt. You simply go for a grading when you are physically and mentally ready.
